Substation Superintendent

My career with B&B began as a Leadman, reporting to the crew Foreman. Responsibilities included, but were not limited to, the safe, productive, and quality construction, maintenance, and repair of green and brownfield electrical substations, ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. Other responsibilities included directing and training employees under me.

While employed here, I have had the opportunity to be promoted from a Leadman to a Foreman, and then to a General Foreman. Presently, I am the Substation Superintendent, reporting directly to the Substation Director.

As Foreman, my responsibilities included, but were not limited to:

  • Overseeing my crew, ranging from a 5-person to a 20-person crew makeup, in the safe, productive, and quality construction of green and brownfield substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV.
  • Scheduling the delivery and pickup of company-owned and rental construction equipment.
  • Requesting and holding clearances during outages.
  • Attend progress meetings with the customers.
  • Scheduling materials to be delivered.

As General Foreman, I reported directly to the Substation Manager. My responsibilities included, but were not limited to, the following:

  • Overseeing numerous crews on different sites in multiple states.
  • Ensuring the jobs are performed in a safe, productive, and quality manner for various customers.
  • Ordering and scheduling materials to be delivered to jobs.
  • Work alongside the safety department to conduct safety investigations.
  • Attend customer safety conferences, pre-bid meetings, job kick-off meetings, and job progress meetings.
  • Estimating and bidding on projects.

In my current role as Substation Superintendent, I report directly to the Substation Director. My responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performing takeoffs, requesting quotes from substation packagers, estimating, and bidding projects for greenfield and brownfield electrical substations.
  • Provide Not-To-Exceed (NTE) estimates to customers on T&E-based projects.
  • Submit billing for T&E, Lump Sum, and Progress Draw projects.
  • Attend pre-bid, project kickoff, safety conferences, and progress update meetings, both virtual and in-person, for various customers.
  • Schedule crews, subcontractors, equipment, and procure materials for projects.
  • Work alongside the Safety Department on accident investigations.
  • Interview and hire employees.
  • Approve and submit employee timesheets.
  • Approve company credit card purchases made by crew foremen and general foremen.
  • Attend in-house quarterly meetings to discuss company matters, such as financials, job performances, safety, individual department needs, upcoming projects, customer acquisition, etc.

  • Safe, productive, and quality construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV.
  • Training and safety of my crew members ranging from 5 to 20 employees.
  • Maintained and operated construction equipment.
  • Held clearances during outages.
  • Scheduled and received materials and substation equipment, including major equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gear, and control buildings.
