Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Daily work includes collecting and analyzing sputum and blood specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases present. Also, routine work involves measuring the lung capacity of patients to determine if an impaired function is present. As necessary, administering treatment prescribed by physicians for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the breathing process.
